Pumpkin Spice Latte

I’ve never been someone to run out to Starbucks the moment PSLs hit the stores. But part of that is because I can’t see spending $5 on what is essentially 2 cups of milk, a shot of espresso and some sugar and spice. So I thought I’d try making it at home. The verdict? I like it; but it’s not gonna make me a run-to-Starbucks PSL convert.

Pumpkin Pie Spice:
3T cinnamon
2t ground ginger
2t nutmeg
1-1/2t ground allspice
1-1/2t ground cloves

For the Latte:
2T pumpkin puree
1T brown sugar
1T white sugar
1/2t pumpkin pie spice
1c milk
2t vanilla
1/4c hot espresso

In a small saucepan, combine the pumpkin, sugars and spice mix with 1T water. Heat over medium for 2 minutes until the sugar is dissolved.

Add milk and vanilla to the pan, cook for 2 minutes more.

Pour through a seive into a mason jar; shake it vigorously to froth the milk. (Or maybe it would work to just use a milk frother??)

Pour over hot coffee and stir. Top with whipped cream and a dusting of pumpkin pie spice, if desired.
